(Without Breaking the Bank)

As soon as I turned sixteen and got my first job, I went crazy buying all kinds of hair products. I used to buy all the "for thinning hair" shampoos and chemicals that were supposed to keep your hair from falling out and thicken what was already there.

Important Note #1: Shampoos with "alkyl phenol thoxylates" are not good for your hair. Stay away from these if you're worried about hair loss. I use Progaine's two-in-one Shampoo with Conditioner - it's gentle on your hair and you can use it every day without damaging it too much.

Important Note #2: Washing your hair every day is not a great idea. Conditioning is important as it gives moisture to your hair and scalp. Try washing your hair 5 or 6 days per week and condition it every day. I do this and my hair is always very clean and healthy.

Important Note #3: 02.01.2007 - Guess what! I wrote this eBook a few years ago and I feel it's important to update you on new news. While the information on this page is true - and it could work perfectly fine for you - I've updated my daily hair regimen. You can find these new details on page 18. That link will open up in a new window so that you can just close it to come back here and continue reading in order. However, if you have popup blockers installed, you may have some trouble.

While shampooing your hair, you're not only cleaning off oils that you don't want on your scalp - you're also cleaning off oils that you DO want on your scalp. Conditioning is good enough.

Some products claim to make your hair thicker and stronger. I've tried them all. While I can't be sure they worked (they didn't grow any hair back) they probably kept my alopecia from getting any worse. Being that my haired looked thicker, I suppose that could have eased some stress. That alone could have saved me from additional hair loss.
